The roots of G. Buttner & Co. go back to the trading city of Rotterdam, where in 1954 Mr. George Buttner started his own brokerage company in spices, dried fruits and edible nuts. When in the early 1960’s Mr. Adri van Graafeiland took over, the company rapidly expanded and became one of Europe’s major international brokerage firms in their business. For decades, factories and plantations in the producing countries have been visited and strong relationships were built. Some of these relations exist for over 30 years. During a part of the 70’s and a large part of the 80’s Adri van Graafeiland also was Chairman of the Netherlands Association for Dried Fruits, Spices and allied products (NZV). In 1984 Adri was accompanied by his son Mr. Steven van Graafeiland, when he joined the company. In December 1989 G. Buttner & Co. moved to their current and modern location Krimpen aan den IJssel, just outside of Rotterdam. Mr. Steven van Graafeiland took over G. Buttner & Co. from his father Adri in 2002 and he has been the owner of the company up to this very moment. Also Steven has been a member of the board of the NZV for 20 years, showing once more the involvement of G. Buttner & Co. with the dried fruit and edible nut trade in general. G.
